One-Day Cup Preview | Gloucestershire v Durham
21 August 2023
Gloucestershire host Durham in their final Metro Bank One-Day Cup group stage fixture on Tuesday with a Quarter-Final spot already secured.
A win would ensure Shire receive a home draw against one of Kent, Lancashire or Nottinghamshire in the next round, whereas defeat would mean an away trip to either Leicestershire or Hampshire.
Durham make the trip to Bristol without being able to qualify but could still leapfrog Glamorgan with a win into a respectable fourth-place finish in Group B.
Team news
Dale Benkenstein selects a fourteen-player squad for the Shire’s final group stage match, with Matt Taylor (toe) dropping out the only change.
Ben Charlesworth (knee) remains sidelined, while Ajeet Singh Dale (thigh) and Marchant de Lange (quad) will not feature again this season.
Your 14-player Gloucestershire squad to face Durham:
James Bracey*, Zaman Akhter, Anwar Ali, Chris Dent, Zafar Gohar, Miles Hammond, Ollie Price, Tom Price, Josh Shaw, Tom Smith, Jack Taylor, Graeme van Buuren, Paul van Meekeren, Ben Wells.
Last time out
Gloucestershire made it five wins from seven when they played Sussex on Friday, beating the south coast side by a whopping 166 runs in Hove.
Jack Taylor wrote his name into Gloucestershire’s 50-over history once again by smashing a 52-ball century, the Club’s fastest in List A cricket.
Taylor’s fifth wicket partnership of 144 with Ollie Price, whose 95 catapulted him to the summit of the competition’s run-scoring charts, guided Gloucestershire to an enormous 312 all out from their 38 overs.
Sussex were unable to mount any serious pressure during their chase, falling victim to some expert bowling by the Shire attack. The pick of the bowlers, Tom Smith’s lbw dismissal of Pujara contributed to superb figures of 3-16 off his 4.1 overs.
Our opponents
Despite a mixed set of results in this year’s One-Day Cup, Durham found their mojo against table toppers Warwickshire on Sunday.
Durham won a thrilling contest by one run, as Warwickshire failed to score the three runs needed off the final ball in Birmingham.
David Bedinham’s 152 off 108 balls was the driving force behind a first innings score of 338/8 for the north-east county before Migael Pretorius’ 4-50 curtailed Warwickshire’s hopes to confirm an early Semi-Final spot.
Last meeting
Chris Dent’s fifth List A century helped the Club to a six-run win at the Seat Unique Riverside in last season’s One-Day Cup.
Glos then defended 367/8 thanks to brilliance from Tom Price and Zafar Gohar, who took four and three wickets, respectively.
A repeat result would see Shire play a home Quarter-Final this Friday.
