Now It's Will Who Marks Gidman Farewells
12 September 2014
Will Gidman completed an amazing farewell home game for himself and brother Alex with a century as the LV=County Championship match with Leicestershire at the Bristol County Ground ended in a draw.
Gloucestershire batted through the final day to close on 301-9, with a lead of 387. Will was unbeaten on 104 when the players shook hands, having faced 129 balls and hit 15 fours and 2 sixes.
That followed Alex's 264 in the first innings. With both brothers leaving at the end of the season to join Nottinghamshire and Worcestershire respectively, it was the perfect way to sign off in front of a Bristol crowd.
Afterwards Will told this website: “I am absolutely thrilled to score a hundred on my last appearance for Gloucestershire here.
“I owe the club everything for making my career. This is a time of some sadness, but by the time November comes I know I am going to be very excited at the prospect of teaming up with Nottinghamshire.
“I don’t know how big a step up First Division cricket will be, but I am so looking forward to the challenge.
"What I do know is that I will take with me so many happy memories. It is impossible to single out one. I have just enjoyed being part of a brilliant dressing room."
Alex Gidman (38), Hamish Marshall (32) and Tom Smith (38) also made important contributions as Leicestershire pressed for an unlikely victory.
But the game will be remembered for the contributions of the Gidmans. Alex received a standing ovation after being dismissed and raised his bat to all corners of the ground as he left the pitch.
