Nominee #1 - David Payne

Our first nominee for ‘Supporters' Player of the Season’ is Gloucestershire’s opening bowler David Payne.

David had another strong season in Gloucestershire colours, taking a grand total of 30 wickets in all competitions and missing just one game.

In the Bob Willis Trophy, his standout performance came against Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens. Payne took eight wickets in the match with five arriving in Glamorgan’s first innings. This stellar performance with the ball proved how important he is to Richard Dawson’s team.

He took 14 wickets at an average of 14.21 in the competition and 29 of his 95 overs were maidens!

In the 2020 Vitality Blast, Payne was the joint highest wicket taker for Gloucestershire alongside Ryan Higgins with 16. Payne has now been The Shire’s leading wicket taker in T20 cricket for the fourth consecutive season.

In David Payne’s superb career he has taken 277 First-Class, 115 T20 and 110 List A wickets. His 500th career wicket came on the big stage at Finals Day during Gloucestershire’s semi-final defeat to Surrey. His 16 wickets came at an astonishing strike rate of 14.1!

There is certainly no stopping Payne and we look forward to seeing him in action in the 2021 season.
