New signing Tye named in Australia T20 squad to face India

Gloucestershire's new signing Andrew Tye has been rewarded for another season of consistency by being named in Australia's Twenty20 International squad to play India later this month.

Tye's inclusion is off the back of his superb form for the Perth Scorchers. In eight matches for the reigning BBL champions, the right-armer has taken 13 wickets while conceding only 6.79 runs per over.

The 29-year-old is currently fourth on the KFC Big Bash League's leading wicket takers list with 13 - just one less than a three-player logjam for first.

Tye's performance through BBL|05 has been crucial in securing an unprecedented fifth consecutive finals appearance for the Scorchers and comes after he finished fourth-leading wicket taker for BBL|04 with 14.

It was perhaps Tye's reliability at the most nerve-racking moments of a game that secured his selection, frequently being called upon by his captain to close out games.

Tye, who was midway through a golf game when he received a call from Chairman of Selectors Rod Marsh, said he was "absolutely pumped" and uncharacteristically speechless when he received the call.

Speaking to the Perth Scorchers’ website Tye said "It's such a dream come true,"

"I expect it to be a really good learning experience, but I'm trying not to think about it too much, because I still have a job to do for the Scorchers.

"I'll probably get more nervous as it gets closer to the time, but I'm just looking forward to getting around the group and getting to know everyone."
