Muchall Efforts In Vain

Paul Muchall top scored with 66 as Gloucestershire slid to an innings defeat in their Second XI Championship game with Essex at Southend.
The visitors were dismissed for 191 in their second innings, Sam Bracey contributing 54. That still left them 26 runs short of the Essex first innings total of 319 all out.
Gloucestershire had been skittled for 102 in their first innings after losing the toss and being put in on a damp pitch.
Graeme McCarter was the pick of the bowlers in the Essex innings, taking 2-15 from 17 overs, including 12 maidens.
As well as making runs, Muchall bowled for the first time since returning to action after a cartilage operation.
