Miles Takes Six But Lancs Fight Back

30 May 2013

Craig Miles finished with 6-88 as Gloucestershire bowled out Lancashire for 310 on the second day of the LV=County Championship match at Liverpool.

But the visitors were frustrated by a last wicket stand of 66 between Kyle Hogg and Simon Kerrigan before replying with 143-4, Alex Gidman unbeaten on 54

Miles took five of the last six Lancashire wickets after they began day two on 175-4, removing Simon Katich, Wayne White, Steven Croft, Glen Chapple and Hogg.

But after being reduced to 244-9, the hosts recovered through Hogg (45) and Kerrigan (21 not out) to claim a second and third batting point.

There were two wickets each in the innings for Graeme McCarter and Liam Norwell, but it was Miles' day as the talented 18-year-old followed up his 6-99 against Worcestershire this season with new career-best figures.

He sent down 27.2 overs, including seven maidens, to further demonstrate his immense potential.

Ed Young was unable to bowl after sustaining a wrist injury on the opening day, leaving Gloucestershire without a recognised spinner.

The visitors made a poor start to their first innings when Michael Klinger and Chris Dent fell to the wily Chapple.

Dan Housego made 29, but Hamish Marshall also fell cheaply and it was Gidman who held his team together with a valuable half-century, while Benny Howell was 32 not out at stumps.
