Miles Steps Up For Northants Game

22 April 2013

Craig Miles has been named in Gloucestershire’s squad for the first LV=County Championship home match of the season against Northamptonshire, starting on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old bowling all-rounder replaces James Fuller, who unfortunately suffered a broken finger taking a catch in the opening Championship fixture against Essex at Chelmsford.

Miles, who made his Championship debut for Gloucestershire against Northants at Bristol in 2011, may well go straight into the side again.

A squad of 12 has been selected, with a decision on the final eleven to be taken when conditions are assessed.

A tall seam bowler and capable lower order batsman, Miles was still at college when making his county debut as a 16-year-old. As well as his Championship debut, he featured in two CB40 games during the 2011 season.

Craig signed a three-year contract with Gloucestershire in November 2010, a two-year summer deal, which has culminated in a full-time professional contract for this season.

Northants arrive at Bristol having crushed Essex by an innings and nine runs last week, with 23-year-old left-arm pace bowler David Willey, son of umpire and former England player Peter Willey, claiming eight wickets in the match.

That win put Northants top of the Championship Second Division after two games so they will present a tough challenge to Michael Klinger and his team.

Eighteen-year-old wicketkeeper Cameron Herring will be making his home debut for Gloucestershire after earning selection ahead of Richard Coughtrie and Gareth Roderick for the game against Essex, which saw his side claim nine points from a draw.
