13 January 2014
Miles Hammond has received the perfect 18th birthday present by being named in the England squad for the ICC Under-19 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates next month.
Gloucestershire’s young off-spinner, who turned 18 on Saturday, will be in a party of 15 players who depart on January 31st to carry England’s hopes for the competition.
It begins with a game against hosts UAE at the Zayed Cricket Stadium on Friday February 14th. England then face other group matches against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in Dubai.
England Development Programme Head Selector David Graveney said: “This squad contains an exciting mix of young talent which we look forward to seeing perform on the world stage against top class opposition.”
The former Gloucestershire captain added: “It will be an excellent experience for these young players to develop their games in a world class environment, competing at the highest level in this prestigious tournament.”
Miles has been a regular in the England Under-19 squad, most recently playing against UAE and Pakistan during a tour in preparation for the World Cup during December.
