Miles Hammond signs one-year extension at Gloucestershire
28 August 2024
Gloucestershire is delighted to announce batter Miles Hammond has signed a one-year contract extension at the Seat Unique Stadium through to 2025.
A product of the Gloucestershire Cricket Academy, Hammond has been an ever present and integral part of Mark Alleyne’s side across all formats throughout the 2024 season so far. Batting at four in the County Championship, Hammond is among Division Two’s top run-scorers with 692 runs from nine matches at an average of 46.13. His high-score of the season to date came against Glamorgan at his home-town of Cheltenham where he scored 121 runs during a dramatic draw against Glamorgan. In 71 first-class matches in Gloucestershire colours since making his debut in June 2013, Hammond has scored 3,872.
A former England under-19 international, Hammond is an explosive white-ball opening batter and in 108 T20 matches for Gloucestershire, has scored 2,098 runs with a strike rate of 134.40. In this year’s Vitality Blast, Hammond sits within the top 10 top run-scorers of the competition so far with 392 runs from 14 innings. It was also during this year’s Blast that Hammond achieved his highest ever T20 score, a brilliant 80 off 41 balls as Glos thrashed Kent Spitfires in Canterbury.
Hammond also scored his career best List A score this season, a match-winning 157 as Gloucestershire beat Notts by seven wickets at Trent Bridge. He now has 669 runs at an average of 39.35 from just 20 List A matches.
Speaking of his joy at signing a new deal at Gloucestershire, Hammond said: “I’m looking forward to contributing to another great year of cricket with the Glorious Glosters. This year has been a really positive one not only for me personally but us as a team, and I’m really excited by how we continue to grow as a unit.
“Mark has been brilliant since he came in as Head Coach and we’ve already seen the benefits of his influence on the pitch so far this season. It’s an exciting time to be at Gloucestershire and I can’t wait to see what next season brings.”
Mark Alleyne, Head Coach at Gloucestershire, added: “It's so good to see Miles extend his stay with us. He has batted in key positions across the formats and continues to excite and thrive as one of our leading players here.
“Miles is very often the catalyst to some good batting displays but his contribution in the field stands alone with some stunning outfield catches and energetic ground fielding.
“As Miles approaches the peak of his playing career, it’s great we get to benefit from such a character around the group for at least another year.”
