Miles Hammond signs contract extension at Glos until 2024
2 September 2022
Miles Hammond has signed a two-year contract extension at Gloucestershire to keep him at the Seat Unique Stadium until at least the end of the 2024 season.
Left-hand bat and right-arm off-spinner, Hammond, 26, is a product of the Gloucestershire Cricket Academy and has made 119 appearances for the Club since making his debut v Yorkshire at Headingley in 2013. In the nine years that have followed Hammond has scored more than 3,651 runs across all three formats for The Shire.
In 2022 alone, Cheltenham-born Hammond has scored 739 runs at an average of 38.89 in Division One of the LV= Insurance County Championship, the most of any Gloucestershire player so far this year. The all-guns-blazing batter has also achieved an impressive strike rate of 144.6 from 13 T20 appearances this season and in his 20-over career for The Shire, has scored more than 1,200 runs in 65 matches.
Speaking of his delight at extending his contract at Glos, Hammond said: "I’m really excited for the next couple of years here at Glos. It’ll be an awesome challenge and one I can't wait to get stuck into.
"This year has been a big learning curve and I'm looking forward to helping us come back stronger as a team next year."
A former England under-19 international, Hammond was picked up by Gloucestershire from Oxfordshire and is now well-established top-order batter for Dale Benkenstein’s side.
In 46 first-class matches during his career so far for Gloucestershire, Hammond has scored 2237 runs and just last month, hit a career-best 169 v Hampshire in his home town, at Cheltenham College.
Following his involvement in The Hundred with Birmingham Phoenix, Hammond has returned to Gloucestershire this week in readiness for The Shire’s final three County Championship Division One matches v Somerset, Warwickshire and Yorkshire.
Steve Snell, Performance Director at Gloucestershire Cricket, added: “I’m really pleased Miles has decided to extend his contract with the Club. Not only has Miles shown a huge appetite and skill level in the shorter form of the game, he has also shown that over the course of the season, he is committed and very skilled in the red-ball format as well. Miles is able to adapt his game in a variety of ways and I’ve enjoyed observing how well he works with Dale as he keeps on improving in red-ball cricket.
“Miles is a huge part of Gloucestershire’s future and I’m sure he’s going to have a massive impact across all formats for many years to come.”
