Mike Procter funeral: Pay your respects at Gloucestershire Cricket
19 February 2024
It was with a heavy heart on Saturday evening that the Club announced the death of Mike Procter, a legend of the game from Bristol to Durban and everywhere in between. The outpouring of grief in the days since the terribly sad news of Mike’s passing has shown how popular he was not only on the field as a generationally talented cricketer, but also as a fabulously kind-hearted and much-loved character off it. The charity work he was so proud of with the Mike Procter Foundation will provide a lasting legacy of his insatiable appetite to help others, while his legacy for what he achieved out in the middle for Gloucestershire speaks louder than any words could.
We’ve all been touched by the tributes that have flooded in on social media from around the world in memory of Mike’s life and playing career, with many crediting their lifelong love of the game to Mike’s flamboyant excellence with bat and ball. All of our thoughts at this very sad time of grief and reflection are with Mike’s family, his dearest friends and the many former teammates who played alongside him.
It has been confirmed that a funeral for Mike Procter will take place on Saturday 24th February in his hometown Durban, South Africa, and members of the public are invited to a celebration of Mike’s life at the Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol, where the funeral service and subsequent wake will be live streamed to large projector screens via a video link. Please find details of the service below, as we look to come together with some of Mike’s former teammates, to pay our respects to one of the greatest players ever to play cricket for Gloucestershire.
