Middlesex Game Washed Out

12 May 2013

No play was possible in the Yorkshire Bank 40 match between Gloucestershire and Middlesex at Bristol because of persistent afternoon drizzle.

At one point a 29 overs a side game was planned with a 3.30pm start. But, although the teams were named, the rain returned before the captains had tossed up.

From then on it was frustration all round for players, spectators and groundstaff as the covers came off at times only to be replaced as another light shower passed over.

Umpires Jeff Evans and Richard Illingworth even gave the go-ahead for a ten over game starting at 6pm. The teams took the field, with Middlesex having won the toss and elected to field, only to head for the pavilion again before a ball could be bowled.

Gloucestershire were left with three points from as many Group C games, while for Middlesex it was a first point in the competition, having lost their opening fixture against Glamorgan.

Hamish Marshall had recovered from his stomach bug and was due to play in a Gloucestershire team showing one change from the victory over Unicorns at Wormsley.

James Fuller was set to replace the injured Will Gidman, having recovered from a broken finger.

Will aggravated an ankle problem when attempting to bowl in the second innings of the drawn LV=County Championship game with Hampshire.

He told this website: "It's throbbing a bit today, but thankfully we have a bit of a break from Championship cricket now so fingers crossed I will be ready for the next game.

"The ankle felt fine when I ran on it yesterday, but it was a different story when I brought my foot down on the bowling crease and I knew straight away that I couldn't continue."
