Michael To Miss Last Game
7 September 2013
Michael Klinger will miss Gloucestershire’s final LV=County Championship game of the season against Glamorgan at Cardiff, starting on Tuesday September 24th.
The skipper is flying home to Australia two days earlier for the start of their domestic 50-over competition in which he will be playing for the West End Redbacks.
It means a highly successful first season as Gloucestershire captain will end slightly prematurely for Michael, who has racked up more than 1,000 runs in both first class and one-day cricket.
His final game will be the LV=County Championship clash with Second Division leaders Lancashire at Bristol, starting on Tuesday September 17th.
Michael told this website: “Our 50-over competition back home has been brought forward this year and I only became aware of that recently.
“It is unfortunate that I will have to miss the Glamorgan game, but I will be taking a lot of happy memories of the summer over here back with me and look forward to returning in April.”
Michael is already under contract for next summer and anticiaptes the continued development of the young team he has been leading.
“I always felt that whatever we achieved this season there would be more to come in my second year and nothing has altered that opinion,” he said.
“At times our inexperience has showed and we have had days where our standards have slipped below what is acceptable.
“But in a lot of games the players have shown what they are capable of and it is now a question of being more consistent in all formats.
“I have loved my time here, My family have enjoyed Bristol and I was made to feel really welcome from the moment I arrived.
“The senior players helped me a great deal and next season I will be more aware myself of the opposition’s strengths and weaknesses.
“With the new pavilion now opened, there is a lot to look forward to for the club and hopefully I can continue to play a part in achieving success on the field.”
