Michael Klinger voted "Bert Avery Gloucestershire Player of the Year"
13 November 2013
On Monday 11 November, at a meeting of the Gloucestershire Cricket Lovers' Society, members voted for the “Bert Avery Gloucestershire Player of the Year.” This year, votes were cast overwhelmingly for Gloucestershire Captain, Michael Klinger.
Chairman of the GCCC Cricket Lovers’ Society, David Mclauchlan said: “The award reflects Michael's contribution as both an outstanding batsman and Captain and is richly deserved.”
In winning this award, Michael joins a distinguished list of previous winners including Courtney Walsh, Jack Russell and Craig Spearman.
The enthusiasm of Bert Avery, Gloucestershire scorer for 16 years and former Curator of the Club’s museum, led to winter meetings of cricket enthusiasts. At a meeting in 1994 the Gloucestershire Cricket Lovers' Society was officially formed. The membership now numbers over 100.
The Gloucestershire Cricket Lovers' Society meet on the second Monday of the month from October to April at 7.30 pm. The next meeting will be held in the Pavilion at the Bristol County Ground on Monday 9 December, when the guest speaker will be former England, Yorkshire, Somerset and Sussex fast bowler, Paul Jarvis. Future speakers include John Barclay on 13 January and Richard Blakey on 10 February.
