McCarter Gets Big Chance With Ireland

27 August 2014

Graeme McCarter has been named in Ireland’s squad for a three-match one-day series against Scotland at Malahide next month.

The series is an important part of Ireland’s preparations for the next World Cup and the team will be captained by former Gloucestershire player Kevin O’Brien.

For 21-year-old seamer McCarter selection for the 13-man squad therefore offers a great opportunity to impress.

Gloucestershire Director of Cricket John Bracewell told this website: “It’s a chance for Graeme to stake a claim for a place in Ireland’s World Cup squad.

“If he could achieve that it would be fantastic experience for him and great for us as a club as we continue to invest in his future.”

Kevin O’Brien said: "The focus now for the squad is very much geared towards World Cup preparation, and these three matches against Scotland are an important part of that.

"There are still places up for grabs and everyone's working really hard to make sure they're part of what's sure to be a fantastic event.”

Squad: Kevin O’Brien (capt) (Railway Union), John Anderson (Merrion), Andrew Balbirnie (Middlesex), George Dockrell (Somerset), John Mooney (North County), Andrew McBrine (Donemana), Graeme McCarter (Gloucestershire), Andrew Poynter (Clontarf), Stuart Poynter (Durham), Max Sorensen (The Hills), Stuart Thompson (Eglinton), Andrew White (Instonians), Craig Young (Bready).
