Matt Taylor out of Hampshire clash

7 July 2014

Matt Taylor has been ruled out of Gloucestershire’s team for the LV=County Championship match with Hampshire at Southampton, starting today.

And the 19-year-old left-arm seamer faces the prospect of missing at least part of the Cheltenham Festival, which starts next Monday, after being diagnosed with shin splints.

Director of cricket John Bracewell told this website: “Matt is looking at being out of action for at least a couple of weeks. “Injuries to other bowlers have meant him having a massive work-load for a 19-year-old this season.

“He has carried a big burden for us and at times he has been outstandingly courageous in his efforts.”

James Fuller also looks set to miss at least some of the Cheltenham Festival as he is not recovering as quickly as expected from a stress injury to a foot. But there is better news of Craig Miles, who has not played any first team cricket this season due to a back problem.

He is due to test his fitness in the second XI this week, as will wicketkeeper Gareth Roderick, who will play as a batsman in the same match as he completes his recovery from a twice broken finger.

John Bracewell said: “We are not sure yet whether Craig or Gareth will be ready for Cheltenham. It is not just a case of them being available. They need to be cricket fit and in some sort of form.”

Michael Klinger is hoping to be fit for Cheltenham, but has ruled himself out of the match against Hampshire. The skipper had targeted that game for his return, but remains under treatment for a broken toe.
