Match Report - Gloucestershire v Sussex Day 2
12 June 2019
David Payne and Graeme van Buuren put a dampener on Sussex’s second day as the rain put an end to play after lunch.
Sussex reached 351/8 before lunch after a flurry of wickets from the Gloucestershire bowlers ended a long sixth wicket stand between Will Beer, who fell just three short of a century and David Wiese, who was the first to go on the second day after getting trapped lbw by van Buuren.
David Payne was the man to ruin Will Beer’s day, bowling him out for 97 to the audible groan of the Sussex fans. Chris Jordan (7) was bowled out not long after for van Buuren’s second wicket of the day.

The teams headed in for lunch with Sussex adding 94 runs to their first day total. Rain was persistent after lunch and after several inspections, umpires Ian Blackwell and Neil Bainton called off play for the day at 4.40pm with only 30 overs bowled.
Sayers, who is making his Gloucestershire debut, felt his side have been unlucky with the ball.
“The boys stuck at it,” he said. “We bowled well, especially on the first day when there was a lot of playing and missing. We could have bowled them out for 150 quite easily.
“The weather has ruined today but when we get our chance to bat, we’ve just got to do as well as we can and try and get as many bonus points. It does look like it is going to be a one-innings match now with all the rain around.”
Barring more rain, play will resume tomorrow at 11:00 at Arundel.
