Match Preview: Gloucestershire v Glamorgan
22 June 2019
Gloucestershire return to the Bristol County Ground for the first time since the end of April as they look to extend their unbeaten run in the Specsavers County Championship against Glamorgan.
The team come into the game with multiple players hitting form with the bat including Ryan Higgins and Chris Dent who both passed the 150-mark last week against Leicestershire, something Head Coach Richard Dawson was keen to see.
“We talked a lot about the team coming first and building big partnerships rather than playing for yourself. When we were three wickets down against Leicestershire, Benny and Denty stayed at the crease to get the team back into a decent position,” he said. “We did the same with the bowling partnerships. Players aren’t searching for their own glory but working as a team and that paid dividends at the end of the first day where we took four wickets in the last half-hour or so. As a collective we are doing some great things.”
Gloucestershire's 13-man squad for tomorrow's game is:
Dent, Hammond, Bracey, Roderick, Howell, J Taylor, Higgins, van Buuren, M Taylor, Shaw, Payne, Drissell, Sayers
Since Gloucestershire last played a County Championship match in Bristol, they have managed to pick up a win at Durham and four draws including one against tomorrow’s opponents Glamorgan when the two sides met at Spytty Park in May.
“That four-day match in Newport we played some very good cricket and were on top of the game,” Dawson said. “We forced them to follow on but they batted very well in the second innings when the pitch got a bit flat. What we need to do is repeat those first two days and then keep our foot on the pedal.”
The match-up will be between two sides that have performed well to start the season. Both Gloucestershire and Glamorgan have yet to taste defeat in the County Championship this season and after last week’s draw with Leicestershire, Gloucestershire are now unbeaten in eleven consecutive County Championship games.
Glamorgan's 13 man squad:
Lloyd, Carey, Cullen, de Lange, Douthwaite, Hemphrey, Hogan, labushagne, Morgan, Root, Selman, van der Gugten, Wagg.
Gloucestershire v Glamorgan begins tomorrow at 11:00am, gates open at 9:00am.
