Match Preview - Gloucestershire vs Glamorgan

29 April 2019

Gloucestershire go into their last home game in the South Group of the Royal London One-Day Cup against Glamorgan on Tuesday (11.00) with their chances of progress into the knockout stages still very much alive.

With group leaders Hampshire losing at Essex, Sunday's derby win over Somerset meant both the previously unbeaten sides suffered defeats for the first time, leaving the door open for the teams below them.

Gloucestershire Squad:

Dent (c), Hankins, Roderick, Bracey, Howell, J.Taylor, Higgins, van Buuren, Smith, Payne, Liddle, M.Taylor, Hammond

Jack Taylor's 43 not out was his highest score of the tournament, but he was keen to emphasise that it was a collective effort to chase down the 243 Gloucestershire needed for victory. "Usually there would be more boundaries but both innings panned out in the same way" he said.

"We tried to leave ourselves a manageable target at the end and Graeme (van Buuren) gave us a chance. We didn't want to play too many cross batted shots on a slow wicket and the way he opened up the off side and hit through point and extra cover was fantastic."

"I really like playing that role where you have to see the team over the line. Batting with Graeme, we were talking about trying to get the runs down to about 80 from the last ten overs because we believe we can get that with wickets in hand. It was 44 off the last five and Ryan (Higgins) came in did what Ryan can with a few lusty blows at the end."

Gloucestershire's pre season camp in La Manga included three one day matches against Glamorgan, all of which were won, but skipper Chris Dent says that will count for little on Tuesday.

"Conditions were very different and the ground was much smaller" he explained. "We've batted against most of their bowlers a fair amount, and it's the same for our bowlers against their batsmen so both of us have information on the other team. They had a good win on Sunday and it's about us thinking smart and putting in a good performance."

"We've got ourselves into a decent position because we still have to play Sussex who are ahead of us. If we can beat them we'd be in a good place but we must take it game by game because Glamorgan will be tough too."

All rounder Jack Taylor agreed.

"We can only concentrate on what we can do. With nine teams in the group and only three going through we've got to win the majority, if not all, of the remaining games. Glamorgan have a strong bowling attack and a couple of new batsmen in Labuschagne and Billy Root so we can't take them lightly. We've got to rock up with some good options and pick up again from Sunday."
