Match dates revealed for ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 in Bristol

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has today revealed the dates for this summer’s Women’s World Cup matches in Bristol.

The County Ground will host eight matches, with the first one taking place on opening day of the tournament, Saturday 24 June. There will also be three other weekend fixtures and at least one England game. The other match dates are:

• Thursday 29 June
• Sunday 2 July
• Wednesday 5 July
• Sunday 9 July
• Wednesday 12 July
• Saturday 15 July
• Tuesday 18 July (Semi-Final)

The complete match schedule will be confirmed on Wednesday 8 March with tickets going on sale via www.icc-cricket.com/tickets.

Gloucestershire Chief Executive, Will Brown said "With the domestic cricket season now only a month away it is great to be announcing the dates for the highlight of the summer, the ICC Women's World Cup. We are absolutely delighted to be hosting 8 fixtures in the tournament including one of the opening games and the all-important semi-final. Having the dates confirmed will allow supporters across the country to start to plan their visits to Bristol and with a good mix of weekend and week day matches there is plenty of fantastic cricket on offer."

The tournament will see 28 matches being held over 21 days and importantly four weekends meaning more opportunities for fans to attend. A round-robin between the world’s eight best teams will conclude with a semi-final at Bristol and Derby before the final at Lords on 23 July.

Tournament Director of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, Steve Elworthy, said: “Preparations are now well under way for this summer’s tournament which we hope will push new boundaries for the women’s game. We have worked hard with the venues to put together a schedule that best meets the needs of the players, fans and broadcasters. Confirming the start date as Saturday 24 June, means we have an additional weekend of cricket and it promises to be an exciting opening weekend for everyone involved.”

As well as Bristol, the County Grounds in Taunton, Derby and Leicester will host matches, with hosts England playing at least one game at each the four venues. Then the two Semi-Finals will be played at Bristol on 18 July and in Derby on 20 July. Tickets are currently available www.icc-cricket.com/tickets The showpiece Final will be played at Lord’s on Sunday 23 July. Tickets are currently on sale via www.icc-cricket.com/tickets. So far over 8,000 tickets have been sold, a record sales figure for an ICC women’s Final.

Australia, England, New Zealand and West Indies qualified automatically for the tournament from the ICC Women’s Championship.

The qualifying tournament to determine the final four team’s starts on Tuesday (7/2) in Colombo. India, South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Thailand, Bangladesh, Scotland and Papua New Guinea will all battle it out to make it into the Super Six stage. The top four sides will then secure a place at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, with the top two facing off in the Final on Tuesday 21 February.
