The Scorchers won the toss and elected to bat, but struggled to compile any significant momentum through their batting innings, managing just 8-130.

The dangerous Sam Billings and veteran Brad Haddin threatened to break open the game early and the former continued to pile on the runs, despite losing his opening partner at 1-35 when a change of pace from Tye produced a catch at backward point.

Mitch Marsh got the breakthrough for the Scorchers when he dismissed Billings for 40 to have the Sixers 2-51 and behind the visitors at the same stage.

Perth fought gallantly and some disciplined bowling, led by Tye (3-15), kept the game in the balance, but a targeted and aggressive batting display from Player of the Match Johan Botha against Jhye Richardson in the 17th over sealed the result for the Sixers with 12 balls in hand.

It was always going to be a total that demanded the best from Perth's bowlers, with the team having only once previously defended a score less than its 8-130.

Michael Klinger (18 from 15) and Shaun Marsh (8 from 11) appeared to be building a solid start, but their partnership was cut short at 26 with the latter's dismissal.

English import Ian Bell was again a steadying hand after Klinger fell a short time later without adding another run, but even he could only compile 21.

Left-handed wicketkeeper-batter Sam Whiteman whittled an exciting 28 from 16, which featured a towering six into the crowd, but after he fell, the Scorchers struggled to find a substantial partnership.

The runs drought left Mitch Marsh frustrated at the tail-end of Perth's innings and, despite top scoring for his side with 31 not out from 29, some tight bowling from the Sixers had him unable to find a gap through the field, or go over it, to hike his side's total.
