Martin Vernon RIP - 1951 – 2024
12 September 2024
Gloucestershire is saddened to learn of the death of its former player, Martin Vernon, at the age of 73.
A pace bowler, Vernon signed for Gloucestershire from Middlesex in 1977 on a three-year-deal but was forced to retire from cricket at the end of his first season in Bristol due to an ankle injury.
It was during his only season at the Club, however, that Vernon contributed to Gloucestershire's memorable 1977 Benson and Hedges Cup final victory at Lord's against Kent. Bowling Right-arm fast-medium, Vernon is fondly remembered for taking two crucial wickets in that match as Gloucestershire went on to win silverware.
Everyone at Gloucestershire sends our thoughts to Martin's family, friends and everyone who knew him at this difficult time.
