Marshall reflects on the Masters Champions League
1 March 2016
Hamish Marshall says he feels ready for the new season after taking part in the first ever Masters Champions League.
The former Black Cap helped his side - the Leo Lions – finish runners-up in the T20 tournament for retired internationals and top-scored in the final.
He made 46 and looked to be guiding his side to victory when he was controversially given out LBW to Saqlain Mushtag despite it appearing as though the ball had hit his inside edge.
His dismissal proved the turning point as the Lions were bowled out 17 runs short of the 131 they needed for victory.
Reflecting on the experience in the UAE Hamish said: “It was brilliant. The standard of cricket was really good and it was pretty well run.
“It was nice to spend three weeks in the sun around some of the best players in the world.”

Hamish’s teammates included Brian Lara and Herschelle Gibbs while his opponents in the final - the Gemini Arabians - featured the likes of Virender Sehwag and Muttiah Muralitharan.
He said: “The games were more competitive than most people thought.
“You still had some guys charging in, the likes of Fidel Edwards, Tino Best getting it up to 140kph and guys like Murali who can turn the ball and still put it on a dime.
“It was certainly beneficial to get out on grass and get into game mode which is different from practice mode and it is something I would definitely look to do again.”
Hamish’s highest score of the competition came in the group game with the Libra Legends where he made 64 off just 39 balls against an attack that included Graeme Swann, Brad Hogg and Ian Butler.
