Marcus Harris to return home to Australia after the Ashes
7 July 2023
Overseas batter Marcus Harris will return home to Australia following his participation in the England vs Australia Ashes series.
Harris signed for Gloucestershire in Autumn 2021 on a two-year contract but will leave Gloucestershire early due to family reasons.
The 30-year-old has been a top performer for Gloucestershire over the last two years and in last year’s County Championship Division One, scored 726 runs from nine matches at an average of 42.70 and ended the season as Shire’s second highest first-class run-scorer. His good form continued into the Royal London Cup in which he scored 332 runs from eight matches at 41.50.
In this season’s County Championship, Harris got off to a flyer and managed to notch 457 runs from just five matches, with his best batting innings coming against Glamorgan in Cardiff where he scored a terrific 148.
Speaking about his time at Gloucestershire, Harris said: “I’ve loved my time with Gloucestershire over the past two seasons. Bristol has truly felt like a second home for my family and me, but, unfortunately, I need to return to Australia after the Ashes for family reasons.
“I wish the team success for the remaining games this season and hope to see everyone again at some point in the future.”
Performance Director, Steve Snell, added: “Marcus performed superbly during his time here with Gloucestershire. He made a significant impact with his run-scoring on the pitch but was also a massive part of the dressing room, and the lads not only enjoyed his exploits on the pitch, but also his company off it."
