Life Cycle UK joins Glos Cricket for “Cycle Sunday” on 25 July

Gloucestershire Cricket is delighted to announce that local charity partner Life Cycle UK will be offering a series of fun cycling activities on Sunday 25 July for “Cycle Sunday” at the Bristol County Ground when Gloucestershire take on Lancashire in the Royal London Cup.

Life Cycle UK - whose mission is to get more people cycling, to transform lives and the environment - will be on hand to talk about their work with vulnerable people, and advise people who want to give cycling a go.

Their “Dr Bike” will offer free bike checks to those who cycle to the game, ensuring bikes are running safely and smoothly. This includes fixing punctures, brakes and tuning gears. People can also have a go at making a delicious, pedal-powered smoothie and find out about the wide range of support Life Cycle offers to people at all stages of their cycling journey: From total beginner, to building a career in the cycle industry.

Most importantly, Life Cycle UK will be asking Gloucestershire and Lancashire fans to kindly support their charitable work, helping people who face additional barriers to unlocking the benefits of cycling. That includes providing joyful, liberating days out on tandems for visually impaired people and supporting prisoners to gain a bicycle mechanics qualification.

Pete Lamb, Community Engagement Officer at Gloucestershire Cricket said, “Even more than usual we are encouraging supporters to cycle to the ground this Sunday for ‘Cycle Sunday’. Opportunities of a free bike service and a pedal-powered smoothie are two ways we’re hoping to show the power of cycling, as well as working towards the Club’s sustainability ambitions and decreasing the strain travelling by car puts on our local neighbourhood. We hope our members and supporters will also donate generously, where they can, to our fantastic charity partner, Life Cycle UK.”

Life Cycle UK’s “Bike Back” project – which teaches prisoners to refurbish unwanted bikes for the local community – is located just 600 metres from Bristol County Ground.  The project relies on donations to continue giving prisoners a brighter future. Danny recently got his City & Guilds qualification whilst at HMP Bristol:

"The course has shown me there are other things that I can do - and not just criminal activities! I now know how to strip down a bike and put it back together while doing all the safety checks. The course has widened my choice of work - plus bikes is also a positive and exciting field to work in. I want to gain employment when I’m released."
