22 April 2014
Fourteen-year-old Jordan Garrett hit a half-century on his Second XI Championship debut as Gloucestershire hit back strongly on day two of the match with Surrey at Bristol.
The talented youngster from Oxfordshire made exactly 50, off 110 balls, with 8 fours, batting at number five against a Surrey attack including experienced seamer Tim Linley.
Top scorer was 18-year-old all-rounder Marc Lezar who hammered 83 off just 59 deliveries, with 9 fours and 3 sixes.
Opener Benny Howell contributed 62, with 11 fours, and skipper Ian Cockbain 54, including eight boundaries.
The combined efforts of the four half-century makers enabled Gloucestershire to declare on 344-7 just three runs behind Surrey's first innings total.
The match concludes at the County Ground tomorrow and is followed by a one-day match between the teams on Thursday.
