Lauren Rowles appointed Gloucestershire Women's Head Coach
24 February 2025
Gloucestershire Cricket is excited to announce the appointment of Lauren Rowles as the new Head Coach of Gloucestershire Women, marking a significant step in the Club’s investment in women’s cricket.
Rowles started her playing career with Gloucestershire 17 years ago and returns to the county with impressive coaching experience. In 2022 she was appointed Head Coach of England Men’s Learning Disability team, a role she will continue to fulfil alongside her new position at Gloucestershire.
In domestic cricket, Rowles spent four years as Assistant Coach and then Regional Talent Manager at Central Sparks where she played an integral part of developing players from EPP and Academy cricket into professional cricket.
Her experience also includes coaching positions with various county pathways, giving her a strong foundation in both talent development and elite performance.
Speaking about her appointment and pride in returning to Gloucestershire, Rowles said:
“I think it’s something that many first-class counties thought may never happen [appointing a full-time Women’s Head Coach], but it’s so exciting – maybe a little daunting – but exciting, nonetheless.
“We are a young team. About 75% of our squad is young, talented, and ready to go, while the remaining 25% have a bit more experience and are a bit more level-headed. It’ll be great to get them together to learn from one another – which is something I’m really big on.
“In the next three to five years, I’m excited about the Club’s direction. During my interview process, I could sense how much everyone wants the Women’s team to succeed and for us to be a Tier One team.
“Ultimately, I’ll be judged on how many players we produce into professional cricket. If we can support those players well in their transition, we hope that when we eventually become a Tier One team, which is the ultimate goal, they want to come back to play for us.”
Laura Charles-Price, Head of Talent Pathways at Gloucestershire Cricket, welcomed Rowles to the role, emphasising her expertise and leadership qualities:
"We were fortunate to interview some outstanding candidates for the role, but Lauren Rowles really stood out. She brings the perfect balance of no-nonsense leadership and empathetic understanding, making her an ideal fit for the position.
"With a wealth of experience not only in the women’s and girls’ game but also as Head Coach of the England Men’s Learning Disability side, Lauren has demonstrated her ability to adapt and succeed in diverse coaching environments.
"She has hit the ground running, and I couldn’t be more impressed by the impact she has made in such a short space of time, a really exciting addition to the cricket department."
The team kick off their campaign at the Seat Unique Stadium against Derbyshire Falcons on Saturday 19 April in the Metro Bank One Day Cup Women's League 2, as Rowles looks to put her plans into action and shape the future of Gloucestershire Women’s cricket.
