Last Day Battle On At Northampton

4 August 2013

Michael Klinger (pictured) and Chris Dent will lead a Gloucestershire battle to save the game on the final day of the important LV-County Championship clash with Northants.

The hosts extended their first innings total to a massive 567-4 declared after rain had prevented any play before lunch on day three, David Sales finishing unbeaten on 255.

By the close Gloucestershire had replied with 31 for no wicket, with Dent on ten and Klinger on 21. They still require 178 to avoid an innings defeat.

The only successful bowler on the third day was Craig Miles, who had Cameron White caught by Benny Howell for 16.

Apart from that, it was another tough day in the field for Gloucestershire as Sales added 129 to his overnight score and Andrew Hall contributed 55 to an unbroken fifth wicket stand of 170.

The visitors employed seven bowlers in the innings. But the most positive note of the day for them was struck when Dent and Klinger survived for 14 overs before stumps.
