Klinger Warning As Festival Gets Underway

10 July 2013

Michael Klinger is telling his Gloucestershire team to ignore the LV=County Championship table when they take on Kent in the first match of the Cheltenham Festival today.

Gloucestershire go into the game fifth in the Second Division, still very much in the promotion race, while Kent are bottom, having failed to win any of their eight Championship matches so far.

Despite that statistic, Gloucestershire skipper Michael is warning his team not to treat the visitors lightly.

He said: "Kent may not be having a good season, but they have some very dangerous players in the likes of Rob Key, James Tredwell and Darren Stevens.

"They have brought in Vernon Phillander to boost their bowling attack and that will present a challenge to our batsmen.

"It's important we dust ourselves down after a couple of T20 defeats. Switchhing from that format to red ball crciket is something new for me, but most of the boys are used to it and should be able to make the necessary adjustments."

The four-day clash with Kent kicks-off what is expected to be one of the most exciting Cheltenham Festivals ever, with three Friends Life t20 games as well as another Championship fixture against Worcestershire.
