The Scorchers appeared in control throughout the contest, with the competition's most successful Club having now won three Championships, qualified for five of the tournament's six deciders and hosted four of them.

The Championship win was the highlight of a record-breaking season for the Scorchers, who welcomed another sell-out crowd of 21,832 people through the gates of #TheFurnace, taking the season total attendance to 124,076.

The Scorchers, who had three Gloucestershire players in the matchday squad, Klinger, Tye & Bancroft, won the toss and elected to bowl, with the attack led by Player of the Match Jhye Richardson (3-30) putting the Sixers under immediate pressure and restricting them to 9-141.

The promotion of freewheeling Sam Whiteman (41 from 21) continued and, together with opening partner Klinger (71 no off 49) put on a commanding opening stand of 75 to put the visitors to the sword.

The Sixers found little reprieve even when Whiteman fell, stumped attempting to charge Nathan Lyon, as England import Ian Bell (31no off 25) entered the fray with his own attacking style.

The Scorchers had previously been criticised for not being aggressive enough, particularly in the powerplay, but the three batters bludgeoned nine maximums and 12 fours between them as they trampled down the Sixers' total with 25 balls to spare.

The ever-consistent Klinger, who scored a total of 334 runs in the 2017 competition, at an average of 37.11, was voted the fifth best played in the BBL|06.

The Scorchers' bowling attack got its side off to the ideal start, with semi-final hero Mitchell Johnson (1-13) steaming in and having the visitors immediately on the back foot.

The early wicket of Daniel Hughes (eight) to Ashton Turner (1-8 (1)), followed by some sharp fielding to run out Nic Maddinson (one), had Sydney in trouble at 2-15 and when Johnson had opener Michael Lumb caught behind for five, the Sixers were 3-17 and in a perilous position.

Sydney captain Moises Henriques (21) and veteran wicketkeeper Brad Haddin (38) not only rebuilt their side's innings, but began pushing towards an imposing total.

Enter pace tyro Richardson.

The 20-year-old dismissed both set batters, with the Sixers adding only five runs between the losses to be 5-79, before having Jordan Silk (three) caught cheaply in the deep.

A late-innings push by Johan Botha (32) had the Sixers scurry to 9-141.
