Klinger & Bancroft win One-Day Cup

23 October 2017

Western Australia have won the JLT One-Day Cup for the first time in three years after defeating South Australia by six wickets in the final at Hobart’s Blundstone Arena on Saturday night.

Mitch Marsh blasted Western Australia to a comprehensive six-wicket win over South Australia. The Warriors skipper clubbed nine fours in an unbeaten 80 off as many balls as they easily chased down SA's 9-248 with 38 balls to spare.

Marsh shared a 126-run stand with Gloucestershire's Cameron Bancroft (76) to clinch WA's second piece of domestic limited-overs silverware in four seasons.

Bancroft was undone by a short ball barrage when he pulled Kane Richardson to Tom Cooper.

Brother Shaun Marsh scored 32 to finish top of the tournament run-scoring list with 411 at an average of 102 as he pushes his case for a spot in the Test team for the Ashes series batting at No.6.

After electing to bat, in-form South Australia openers Alex Carey (16) and Jake Weatherald (4) were gone inside the first five overs. Returning from international duty in India, spearhead Nathan Coulter-Nile and Andrew Tye were among four bowlers to finish with two wickets.

Part-time left-arm wrist-spinner D'Arcy Short picked up 2-47 in the middle overs, including the big scalp of heavy-hitter Tom Cooper for 63.

Cooper combined with all-rounder Cameron Valente (38) for a 45-run sixth-wicket partnership but holed out in the deep in the 42nd over, leaving the score at 6-209.

Late sixes from Adam Zampa (26 off 23 balls) pushed SA to a competitive score, but it turned out to be insufficient.
