Kane Ton Makes It Back To Back CB40 Wins

13 May 2012

Kane Williamson hit a brilliant 112 off 92 balls to lead Gloucestershire to a comprehensive 164-run Clydesdale Bank 40 victory over Leicestershire at Bristol.

The result was never in doubt once the 21-year-old New Zealander had shared a third-wicket stand of 152 in 22 overs with Benny Howell, who again impressed with 88.

Kane hit 8 fours, while Benny struck 9 fours and a six as together they put Leicestershire's attack to the sword.

Aided by bright contributions from Aklex Gidman (24) and Ian Cockbain (25 not out) Gloucestershire breezed to 294-6 from their 40 overs in bright sunshine.

Leicestershire were never in it as they slumped to 79-7 in reply, Chris Dent picking up four wickets with his off-spin. They were eventually bowled out for 130.

Gloucestershire outplayed their opponents in all departments to build on their excellent performance against Middlesex at Lord's in the previous CB 40 fixture.

At the end of the game Kane told this website: "We believe we can beat any side on our day and it's a matter of trying to keep on improving on each performance.

"We have done that so far and there is no reason why we should not have a really good season in the competition.

"I enjoy batting with Benny Howell. He is a very good player with all the shots and the ability to do well in all formats of the game.

"It was nice for me to spend some time in the middle in the one-day format. Benny was playing so well I just had to support him and then carry things on when he got out.

"I hadn't realised it was my highest one day score, but now I think about it that is the case. So it's a really enjoyable day."
