Jones, Dent & Franklin to take on club all star team in Festival finale

16 July 2015

A team featuring some of the county’s top club players will take on an all star XI that includes Gloucestershire’s Geraint Jones and Chris Dent in a special T20 game at the Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham Cricket Festival this Sunday.

Former New Zealand allrounder James Franklin will also take to the field to help raise funds for Hamish Marshall’s Benefit Year, with Hamish set to umpire the match.

The match – which will bring down the curtain on this year’s Festival – will start at 2pm with entry just £5 for adults and free for under 16s.

It is the showpiece of a day of activities that includes a coaching session for juniors from local clubs in the morning and live music and a hog roast after the game.

The club team – which has been selected by Gloucestershire Cricket Board chief executive Steve Silk – includes players from 10 different clubs. A number of them took part in a ten over-a-side tournament at the College Ground last year.

The side will be captained by Thornbury CC’s Richard Trotman and includes Gloucestershire Academy player James Bracey (Bristol) and county under 17 Benny Ellis (Lechlade). For the full team see below.

Steve said: “The aim was to have one player from each of the top Gloucestershire-affiliated clubs. We hope people from across the county will come along and support the event.”

As well as Dent, Franklin and 2005 Ashes winner Jones, Hamish Marshall’s XI includes former Glos stars Mike Smith and Tim Hancock and current professionals Jack Taylor and Kieran Noema-Barnett.

Some of these players will join Hamish for the coaching session in the morning which will feature under 10s fro m Cirencester, Corse and Staunton, Chipping Campden, Dumbleton, Charlton Kings, Winterbourne, Minchinhampton and North Cotswold Young Cricketers.
