James Bracey awarded vice captaincy of four-day side
25 March 2021
Gloucestershire Cricket is delighted to announce that James Bracey has been appointed vice-captain of the four-day squad. James will be working closely with Gloucestershire Club Captain Chris Dent for the 2021 season as the Club start their LV= County Championship campaign against Surrey on Thursday April 8.
The 23-year-old wicketkeeper/batsman made his First-class debut for the Club against Sussex at the Bristol County Ground in 2016 and has recently agreed a new contract, seeing him remain at the Club until the end of the 2023 season.
During his time with Gloucestershire, James has grown in stature and is currently on the fringes of the England Test team. He has quickly made a name for himself on a national level, snagging every opportunity with his signature black gloves that resemble those of Gloucestershire legend Jack Russell.
James only managed to feature once for the Club in the Bob Willis Trophy last season due to his England Test squad commitments over a busy 2020 season for the Bristolian.
Dent and Bracey will be leading the Gloucestershire squad out on to the field in Bristol against Exeter University on Monday 29 March in a three-day friendly.
Speaking on becoming the Club’s four-day vice-captain, James said:” It’s a huge honour to have been offered a leadership role within the four-day side this year. It’s been brilliantly led by Denty these past few seasons and with an exciting squad coming together I’m delighted to be vice-captain.
Leadership is definitely something I’m keen to develop amongst the rest of my game and I’m looking forward to offering what I can to the success of the group this summer.”
Club Captain, Chris Dent, added: “Bracey stood out as the perfect man for the vice-captaincy role, he has a great cricketing brain, is extremely professional and is in a great space with his own game.”
