Jack's Shoulder Operation A Success

20 November 2013

Jack Taylor is bowling again following shoulder surgery at the end of September and confident of challenging for a place in Gloucestershire’s team next season.

For that to happen, the off-spinner needs to have his action cleared by the England and Wales Cricket Board, having been suspended last May after it was reported as being illegal for the second time.

But, while the test may have to wait until after Christmas, Jack believes he is firmly on course to pass it, both in terms of fitness and the technical adjustments he has been working on with spin bowling coach Richard Dawson.

He told this website: “The operation was successful and over the last few weeks it has been a case of getting my flexibility and movement back.

“It’s about eight weeks now since the surgery and I am finally back bowling again, which feels great.

“My shoulder kept dislocating so I needed the operation to tighten it up and limit the way it was flexing back.

“I feel I am pretty close to getting my action sorted out. We haven’t put a date on getting it tested yet, but it will be sometime over the next few months.

“I will need to go to Loughborough University for the test and already I feel very confident about it.

“It has been tough making the necessary adjustments and there have been many hours of hard work with Richard Dawson.”

Jack admits to having been through a difficult period following his suspension, but is now much more upbeat about the future.

“At the time it was a shock to have my action reported for a second time and it was quite hard to deal with,” he said.

“But now it is just a case of refining what we have done so far and preparing for the test. It may not be until after Christmas, but we will know more in the next couple of weeks and whenever I take it I am very optimistic of passing and being ready to bowl next season.

“My appetite for playing the game has never been greater. Even during my month off I was gagging to get back into winter training.

“When you go through something like this it makes you realise how much playing for Gloucestershire means.”
