Jack Taylor signs two-year extension at Glos until 2024
2 August 2022
Gloucestershire’s T20 and Royal London Cup Captain Jack Taylor has signed a two-year contract extension until the end of the 2024 season.
The 31-year-old leg-spinner and destructive middle order batter made his debut for Gloucestershire in 2010 and has spent 12 years at The Shire so far. Among his achievements for the Club is his memorable man-of-the-match performance in Gloucestershire’s 2015 Royal London One-Day Cup win over Surrey at Lord’s. He scored 35 off 26 balls and took 3/43 in that match to lead Gloucestershire to glory.
Taylor, who like his brother Matt is a product of the Gloucestershire academy, has made more than 250 appearances for Gloucestershire across all formats and was named T20 captain in 2020. He is now in his third year of captaining The Shire’s 20-over side and has this year also taken on the Royal London Cup captaincy.
A delighted Jack Taylor, said: “I’ve played my whole career at the Club and it’s nice to secure my future at Gloucestershire for the next couple of years.
“We want to win some trophies and I think we have a squad that’s in a position to be able to do so.
“We’ve got a great bunch of guys here, the Club has changed a lot over the last 12 years but I’m loving every moment. I really do believe there’s success around the corner and I want to help the team compete across all formats."
Taylor has made 83 first-class, 59 List A and 114 T20 appearances for The Shire, amassing more than 6,200 runs for the Club in the process. He has a strike rate of 138.79 in T20 cricket and has scored 1492 runs in that format alone.
The versatile all-rounder has also taken 131 wickets for Gloucestershire, 76 in first-class cricket, 29 in List A and 26 in T20.
Dale Benkenstein, Head Coach at Gloucestershire, said: “I’m very happy Jack has re-signed for another two years, I’ve really enjoyed his leadership of the T20 side and really value his contributions with bat and ball. The continuity of leadership in the Vitality Blast, a tournament we have historically done well in, is good for me and for the Club.
“Jack has a great work ethic and is a fantastic character in the dressing room, so I’m delighted to see him commit his future to the Club.”
