Jack Taylor signs two-year contract extension at Gloucestershire
20 December 2023
Experienced batter Jack Taylor has signed a two-year contract extension at Gloucestershire Cricket.
The 32-year-old leg-spinner and destructive middle order batter made his debut for Gloucestershire in 2010 and has spent 13 years at The Shire so far. Taylor’s new deal will see him remain at Glos until at least the end of the 2026 season. Among his achievements for the Club is his memorable man-of-the-match performance in Gloucestershire’s 2015 Royal London One-Day Cup win over Surrey at Lord’s. He scored 35 off 26 balls and took 3/43 in that match to lead Gloucestershire to glory.
Taylor, who like his brother Matt is a product of the Gloucestershire academy, has made 294 appearances for Gloucestershire across all formats, scoring more than 7,500 runs in the process.
A highlight for Taylor in 2023 came during Shire’s victory over Sussex in the Metro Bank One Day Cup in August, a match in which Taylor wrote his name into Gloucestershire’s 50-over history by smashing a 52-ball century, the Club’s fastest in List A cricket.
Speaking of delight at extending his time at Gloucestershire, Taylor said: “I am thrilled to stay with the club for the next three seasons. While our victory in the 2015 Royal London One Day Cup was an unforgettable moment for me, it has been far too long since then. My deep-rooted connection to this club fuels my ambition for success and I’m committed to help bring silverware back home.
“I am confident in our team’s composition, balancing youth with experience, and it’s time for us to work hard to deliver consistent results on the pitch in the coming years.”
As a youngster Taylor rose through the age groups at Oxfordshire ahead of signing on for Gloucestershire’s Academy. Since making his debut 13 years ago, Taylor has gone on to make 91 appearances in First Class cricket for Gloucestershire, scoring 3771 runs at an average of 45.94.
In white ball cricket, Taylor has turned out in 126 T20 matches for Gloucestershire, scoring 1663 runs in the process, and has made 77 List A appearances, scoring 2015 runs.
Will Brown, Chief Executive at Gloucestershire Cricket, said: “Jack is a model professional and is someone a lot of the younger members of the squad really look up to, so I’m delighted to see him commit his future to Gloucestershire.
“Jack has been and still is a fantastic asset to the Club and will bring with him a wealth of experience as we head into the 2024 season. I’m looking forward to seeing Jack display his explosive, match-winning performances he is so recognisable for in the years to come.”
