It's Win Or Bust Against Glamorgan
18 August 2013
Gloucestershire’s bid to win the Yorkshire Bank 40 competition reaches the point of no return when Glamorgan visit the County Ground today (1.45 pm start).
Defeat by Middlesex at Lord’s on Thursday evening has left Michael Klinger and his team needing victories from their last two Group C fixtures to qualify for the semi-finals.
Somerset visit the County Ground on bank holiday Monday (26 August) looking to clinch a place in the last four themselves and it could prove a huge occasion if Gloucestershire come out on top against Glamorgan..
On the other hand defeat today would mean only local pride being at stake for Gloucestershire in the derby clash as only the winners of the three groups, plus the best second placed side, will contest the semi-finals.
Gloucestershire would draw level with Somerset on 15 points with a win over Glamorgan. And that could make the Bank Holiday meeting of the local rivals a straight knock-out game.
Glamorgan, who go into today’s game level with Gloucestershire on 13 points, but having played a game less, entertain Leicestershire at Swansea next Sunday before making the journey north to face Yorkshire in their final group match 24 hours later.
As things stand, the Welsh county are favourites to win the group. But, with home advantage, Klinger’s men will fancy their chances of staying in the hunt – especially as they have won all three one-day contests against Glamorgan this season.
