Introducing our new S&C coach Bob Smith

8 December 2016

Gloucestershire Cricket would like to welcome Bob Smith to the Club as our new Strength and Conditioning coach.  Bob joins us from the University of Bath where he predominantly worked on the LTA High Performance programme.

Prior to this, Bob spent four years at Loughborough University working with professional sportsmen and women, including the Great Britain hockey teams.

Bob has recently joined up with the Gloucestershire team and will be here a couple of days a week, before going full-time in the New Year.

Speaking of his appointment, Bob said: “My first impressions of Gloucestershire Cricket have been extremely good. Both on and off the pitch the Club clearly has ambition for continued success and I’m looking forward to playing my part at such an exciting time.”

“Not all the players are back in Bristol yet, as some are still training overseas.  Of the players I have met, I have been very impressed with their work ethic.  They are keen to push themselves to improve.  My job will be to facilitate their training and to make sure they are in peak condition for the start of the 2017 season.

“The last few years, my role has seen me working predominantly with individuals rather than groups or teams. I am looking forward to bringing this individual focus to the Strength and Conditioning sessions at the Club to make sure each player’s pre-season training is specific to their skills and attributes.”

Bob has also hit the local news headlines recently.  He is running a half marathon every week in 2016 to raise money for the Grand Appeal, with a fundraising target of £9,000.

Keep a lookout on the website next week for more information on Bob’s fundraising run.
