Insight into players weekly "beasting"

4 December 2012

Graeme McCarter gives the fans and supporters of Gloucestershire Cricket an insight into how the team trains and how the Gloucestershire players spend their winter getting ready for a long hard season ahead.

“This week we are looking at the fitness side of things with Chris Bodman aka ‘Beast’ putting us through our paces!

Having arrived at the Filton College track, we are all full of enthusiasm with hands in pockets and not a smile in sight! This is the part of the week that every player in the squad absolutely hates - whether it’s because of the cold, wet and sometimes snowy days or the fact that we all know that we will all be on the floor by the end gasping for air with our legs feeling like two pieces of lead.

As part of our weekly “beasting” from Chris, we all have our own individual distances to cover over a certain time so that each person will reach their maximum heart rates. It is safe to say that Dan Housego is the king of the track at the minute and is setting the standards that we would all like to reach by the first match in April.  Every track session so far this year has been to a high standard with each and every player giving their all and we are determined to reach higher fitness levels.

A final look at what we look like at the end of the session.  We have a variety of ways to end up - for example - the starfish shown here by McCarter and also the foetal position demonstrated well here by Dent! The only good thing going through our heads is the fact that, at this point, we are as far away as we could be from the next track session and also a nice thought towards the snack or treats we left ourselves in the car!”
