The International Cricket Council (ICC) has today unveiled the full match schedule for this summer’s ICC Women’s World Cup to be played in England and Wales, including eight matches in Bristol.  Tickets for all matches will also go on sale from 12.00 hrs GMT today via: www.icc-cricket.com/tickets.

The tournament gets underway at the Bristol County Ground (home to Gloucestershire County Cricket Club) on Saturday 24 June.  With 28 group matches being staged over 21 days at four venues, and importantly four weekends of action, means more opportunities for fans to attend.  A round-robin between the world’s eight best teams will conclude in Semi-Finals, the first to be held at Bristol on Tuesday 18 July, before the final at Lords on Sunday 23 July.

As tickets go on sale today at noon, David Richardson, ICC Chief Executive, said: “I can’t think of a better moment than International Women’s Day to unveil the schedule of one of the leading global events in women’s sport.

“We are anticipating an exciting tournament and I know the players are looking forward to competing here in front of unprecedented levels of support.  We’ve already sold 9,000 tickets for the final at Lord’s which bodes well for the rest of the event going on sale today.  I know we can always count on the British sport-loving public to support big events.

“After the extremely successful qualifying tournament in Sri Lanka last month, we can already see that there will be some fiercely contested fixtures as the standard and competitiveness of women’s cricket continues to rise.”

Will Brown, Chief Executive of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club added: “We are absolutely delighted to be playing such a huge part in the ICC Women's World Cup this year and we look forward to bringing such an iconic event to Bristol.  With such an amazing range of matches, including England vs Australia and a tournament semi-final, it will undoubtedly be an historic year for the Club and we are honoured to be involved.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors, both local and global, to the City and to the Bristol County Ground - roll on June!"

Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol said: “It is an honour and a privilege for Bristol to be a host for the ICC Women’s World Cup this year.  This year we are a European City of Sport, so this couldn’t come at a better time.  We want to use our year as a platform to help inspire more local people to take part in sport and active recreation to help create a healthier and happier city. Events like this play an important role in that aim.

“Bristol is a city that is full of active and passionate people and I feel certain that we will see plenty of locals out supporting our England team this summer.  I hope that it will inspire more local people to get out and try something new this summer and feel the benefit.”

With Bristol being named 2017 European City of Sport, it will bring together the best of what the city is already doing to support and celebrate sport with additional events or campaigns especially for 2017.

Across Bristol there are a wide array of groups and organisations involved in delivering sports to local people and communities, and the aim is for everyone to work together throughout the year to highlight opportunities for everyone to get involved.
