Ian Cockbain Extends Contract until 2020
16 April 2019
Gloucestershire Cricket is delighted to announce that Ian Cockbain has extended his contract with the Club until the end of the 2020 season.
Ian, who made his First-Class debut for Gloucestershire in April 2011, signed for the Club having excelled during three seasons training and playing in the MCC Young Cricketers’ programme at Lord’s.
2018 was a successful season for Cockbain. He made 362 runs in the Vitality Blast, with 123 runs coming in his explosive performance against Middlesex at the Bristol County Ground last summer.
In the Royal London One Day Cup, Cockbain topped the team averages with 69.33, his best innings score of 106 coming against Middlesex in Bristol in June. These centuries made Ian the only Gloucestershire player to have made three figures in both white ball competitions in 2018.
2019 will be a busy season for Cockbain both on and off the pitch after being awarded a Testimonial year.
Speaking on his contract extension, Cockbain said: “I am pleased to have signed a one-year extension with the Club and am happy to be here until the end of the 2020 season.
We have a great squad and coaching staff and I hope that I can contribute to some silverware. The Club has been such a big part of my life and I am grateful to have been awarded a testimonial after 9 years with Gloucestershire.”
Gloucestershire Head Coach Richard Dawson added: “The club is delighted that Ian has extended his contract. He’s been an integral part of the squad for a number of years and we look forward to him both performing on the pitch and passing on his wealth of experience to the younger members of the squad.”
