Herring Back In Action For Second XI
11 August 2014
Cameron Herring returns to action for Gloucestershire in a Second XI Championship game with Sussex at Hove, starting today.
The young wicketkeeper is fit again after a broken finger. A pin inserted to aid the healing process was removed a few weeks ago and Cameron is ready to make up for lost time.
He told this website: “The top knuckle was knocked out of line in my right ring finger and the pin was put in to realign it.
“I started keeping again in practice last week and now have a month of the season left to make a mark again.
“I’m itching to get started. I had been doing okay in the NatWest T20 Blast when the injury happened and it’s good to have got that experience under my belt.”
Matt Taylor was also eyeing the second XI game at Hove for a return after a lay-off caused by shin splints, but is being given longer to make a full recovery.
The left-arm seam bowler played in nine of the first ten Championship games this season, an unexpectedly high workload caused by injuries to other bowlers.
He said: “I never expected to play so much and it was great experience. The injury has been frustrating, but I’m feeling good again and should be playing again soon.”
Gloucestershire's squad for the Sussex game includes Kiwi Test player Mark Craig, who is training with the club along with fellow countryman Todd Astle, in preparation for New Zealand A three-day tour games against Kent and Surrey.
Squad: Joe Barrett, Marc Lezar, Kieran Smith, Tom Smith, Jack Butler, Jordan Garrett, Cameron Herring (wkt), Mark Craig, Robbie Montgomery, Chris Skidmore, Liam Norwell, Miles Hammond.
