Hampshire v Gloucestershire pre-season match ends in a draw
28 March 2023
Gloucestershire’s two-day match against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl ended on Tuesday after only three overs were bowled on a miserable day in Southampton.
James Bracey and Graeme van Buuren returned to the middle for Shire on Day Two but faced just 18 deliveries as the match was abandoned by 2pm.
Bracey ended unbeaten on 68, sharing a 49-run stand with captain van Buuren who finished 16 not out. Both players will have been pleased to spend some time in the middle in what has been a frustrating pre-season weatherwise.
Day One proved a fruitful day for Gloucestershire’s bowling attack as Ajeet Singh Dale, Ollie Price, and Graeme van Buuren took two wickets apiece, while Zaman Akhter, Josh Shaw and Zafar Gohar took one.
The only thorn in Shire’s side proved to be Hampshire number five, Ben Brown, who scored 103* from 121 balls as Hampshire posted 244/9 from 60 overs.
In reply, Gloucestershire batters Ben Charlesworth, Chris Dent and Miles Hammond fell cheaply before Bracey and van Buuren’s fourth wicket partnership ensured a Glos recovery.
Dale Benkenstein’s men play their final fixture before the start of the season on Friday as they host West County rivals Somerset in a three-day match.
