Hamish Scoops Player Of The Year Award

18 September 2012

Hamish Marshall was named Gloucestershire's Player-of-the-Year to cap the club's annual awards evening at Filton College.

The vice captain is pictured receiving his trophy from Julian Risbey, of sponsors Marstons, having earlier collected the Moreton C Cullimore trophy as Batsman-of-the-Year.

Ian Saxelby was named Bowler-of-the-Year, while Dan Housego crowned his first season with Gloucestershire by picking up the Ray Parsons Cup as Young Player-of-the-Year.

All the club's teams were honoured from schoolboy level through to the first XI. The Collis Cup as Academy Player-of-the-Year went to Tom Shrewsbury.

After collecting the top award Hamish told this website: "I am delighted and a little surprised. If I'm honest when it came time to name the Player-of-the-Year I didn't think it would be me.

"Some of the bowlers performed well and some of the other batsmen put their hands up so it was by no means a forgone conclusion.

"Gloucestershire is my career at the moment, the place where I am and want to stay, so it means a lot to me. You play the game to win trophies with your team and if individual ones come along from time to time you know they have been achieved with the help of your team-mates.

"It's a nice accolade for me, but you can only make runs if someone at the other end is staying with you so I have a lot of players to thank."
