Hamish Hundred Cements Strong Position

20 May 2014

Hamish Marshall completed his first century of the season as Gloucestershire set Kent a massive victory target of 582 on the third day of the LV=County Championship match at Bristol.

The hosts declared their second innings on 443-6 in the afternoon session, Hamish having contributed 118 off 243 balls, with 12 fours.

Gareth Roderick made his second half-century of the game and there was an entertaining cameo at the end of the innings from Benny Howell, who smashed 5 sixes and 4 fours in an unbeaten 61 off just 37 deliveries.

Will Gidman (39 not out) shared an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 92 with Benny and then got to work with the ball again, claiming 3-39 as Kent slumped to 69-5 at one stage.

The visitors closed on 165-5, still trailing by 416, but heartened by Ben Harmison’s battling innings of 66 not out and an unbeaten 51 from Sam Billings. Together they had added 96.

Even so, Gloucestershire are hot favourites to achieve their first Championship win of the season by an emphatic margin tomorrow.

Gareth Roderick did not keep wicket in the final session of the day because of a sore hand. Cameron Herring deputised.
