Hamish Hits Ton In Drawn Game

20 May 2012

Hamish Marshall hit a century as Gloucestershire's three-day game with Cambridge MCCU at Fenner's ended in a draw.

The skipper was unbeaten on 22 overnight and went on to score 102 not out off 123 balls, with 18 fours and 2 sixes, in an innings spanning less than three hours.

Hamish received good support from Ian Cockbain, who was on nought at the start of play. He finished with 55 not out off 94 deliveries as Gloucestershire moved from 89-3 in their second innings to 234-3.

The declaration came at that point, Cockbain having hit 9 fours. Cambridge MCCU were left with 253 to win and closed on 189-5.

Liam Norwell took 2-31 from ten overs for match figures of 5-88 on his comeback after injury, while there were also wickets for Graeme McCarter, David Payne and Jack Taylor.

Satyajit Satbhai hit 66, Ben Ackland 40 and James Johnson 40 in a solid batting effort by the students, which saw them 144-2 at one stage

Satbhai hit 9 fours in his 57-ball innings before being caught by McCarter off Payne just before the close.

After the game Hamish Marshall told this website: "It was a good competitive match. Cambridge set some defensive fields and bowled very well to them so our batsmen were given a tough test.

"Dan Housego got runs in the first innings and Ian Cockbain and I managed a decent partnership in the second innings, which was good as the ball was seaming around a bit.

"As far as the bowling was concerned both David Payne and Liam Norwell performed well with no fitness problems, which will mean more options when we come to select for the next Championship game.

"We now have pretty much a fully fit squad and plenty of competition for places, which is exactly how we want it."
