Graham Lake - 1935-2023

Gloucestershire Cricket is saddened to learn of the death of former player, Graham Johnson Lake, at the age of 87.
Graham, who was a right arm fast medium swing bowler, passed away on 15th February 2023.
On the staff of Gloucestershire between 1956 and 1958, Graham made 13 First Class appearances taking 17 wickets at just over 27 apiece. He scored 106 runs at 7.57 with a top score of 18.
A highlight in his career came against Lancashire at Blackpool in July 1956 when he took six wickets in a championship match including that of England batsman Cyril Washbrook, caught and bowled. Before and after his time at Gloucestershire, Graham also appeared for Hertfordshire CCC.
After his playing career he became a distinguished scientist in the field of rubber fatigue, particularly tyres, for which he won the Colwyn Medal in the UK and the Charles Goodyear Medal in the USA.
Graham regularly attended County Cricket matches after retirement and coached and latterly scored in the Hertfordshire Cricket League for many years. He was also a talented club golfer who won a number of competitions and achieved a handicap of two at his peak.
Graham leaves three children, Jeremy, Simon and Stephanie and two Grandchildren, Luc and Charlotte. One child, Christopher, who had Multiple Sclerosis is predeceased him.
