Goodman signs new deal at Gloucestershire

27 August 2021

Gloucestershire Cricket are thrilled to announce that Dom Goodman has signed a new contract with that will see him remain with the Club until the end of the 2023 season.

The 20-year-old fast bowler from Buckinghamshire burst onto the scene at the beginning of the 2021 season. After a spot opened up in the lineup due to injury, Dom made his debut and took 3/55 in the West Country derby at Taunton.

His reputation was further enhanced with a dogged performance at The Ageas Bowl alongside fellow bowler Josh Shaw. The pair came together with 22 overs left in the match and Hampshire on the verge of victory. They soaked up 106 deliveries between them ensuring Gloucestershire would not leave Southampton with less than a draw.

Speaking about his new contract, Dom said:

“I’ve absolutely loved my first two years on the staff at Glos and the experience of playing first team cricket at the start of the season is something I’m delighted to be able to extend. I’m so excited to continue playing with what is a great bunch of lads and to keep loving my cricket in Bristol.”

In his first four first-class matches, Goodman has taken five wickets whilst bowling economically, giving away just 2.42 runs an over. That is the 13th best economy rate amongst County Championship bowlers who have bowled at least 100 overs.

Interim Head Coach, Ian Harvey said:

“We are all delighted with the promise Dom Goodman has displayed since making his debut just a couple of days after joining the first team squad back in April.

“For a young player to do so well against two of the top teams in the country in Somerset and Hampshire is fantastic and something for him to take a great deal of confidence from."

Goodman has yet to make his debut in white ball cricket but has featured in the last four Second XI T20 matches, taking seven wickets at an average of 12.57.

As a young cricketer Dom played and captained throughout the Buckinghamshire County age groups. He played his club cricket in the Home Counties Premier League at Chesham CC before moving to play in the West of England Premier League at Bedminster CC in 2019.
