Good luck to Western Storm ahead of Finals Day this Sunday

Everyone from Gloucestershire Cricket would like to wish Western Storm the very best of luck this Sunday in Finals Day.

Western Storm, Southern Vipers and Loughborough Lightning will all be battling for the prestige of being crowned the first ever Kia Super League champions, when they compete in the competition’s inaugural finals day at the Essex County Ground, Chelmsford this Sunday.

Having finished second and third respectively in the group stages, Heather Knight’s Western Storm and Loughborough Lightning led by Georgia Elwiss will first face-off in a single semi-final at 11.00am. The winner will then take on Charlotte Edwards and the Southern Vipers at 15.00 in the final.

SOUTHERN VIPERS

o Southern Vipers have gone down as the first side to ever finish top of the Kia Super League group table.
o The Vipers won four of their five group games but lost in their most recent match away from the Ageas Bowl, that defeat coming against semi-finalist Western Storm.
o Suzie Bates posted 57 versus Western Storm and 38 against Loughborough Lightning.
o Linsey Smith had the best average of a bowler during the group stage (8.1); nobody took more wickets than her (8).
o The best four economy rates have been recorded by Vipers bowlers (Smith, Nielsen, George and Bates).

WESTERN STORM

o Western Storm have won three matches on the bounce heading into this contest.
o Heather Knight hit 74 against Loughborough Lightning and 31 versus the Vipers, her highest scores of the competition.
o Stafanie Taylor posted 78* off only 51 balls in Storm’s win over Southern Vipers.
o Anya Shrubsole comes into this game having taken figures of 5/23 in Storm’s final group game.
o Heather Knight is one of only three players to bowl their full allocation of 20 overs so far this campaign and the only one to reach finals day.

LOUGHBOROUGH LIGHTNING

o Loughborough Lightning inflicted Western Storm’s only defeat during the group stage.
o Amy Jones smashed 46 off just 30 balls in that win over Western Storm.
o Loughborough Lightning have only won two of their last four matches (L2) ahead of their semi-final against Western Storm.
o Dane van Niekerk’s 91 v Surrey Stars was the highest score of the group stage.
o Ellyse Perry scored 35+ against Western Storm and Southern Vipers in the group phase.
